Small - ELF (SELF)
A working prototype to test the cutting edge technologies will be located at Teide observatory.
SELF is a 3.5m prototype with the form of a bicycle wheel and equipped with 15 mirrors of 0.5m in diameter each to be installed at Teide Observatory in 2026.
The SELF pathfinder will prove our innovative technologies. The SELF is not large enough to see life-bearing exoplanets, but it will be exploited for demonstrating powerful non-imaging observations of nearby exoplanet systems. It will demonstrate rotational cartography on a nearby target, for example to make detailed images of moons of Neptune where the “ground truth” is available from Voyager data.
