We have mentioned LIOM’s milestones regarding technical innovations, but have you ever wondered what will be one of the scientific milestones for the SELF telescope?
We aim at obtaining a direct image of one of the gaseous gigant exoplanets around Epsilon Eridani, the third nearest star to the Sun (10.475 light-years away) visible with the naked eye in the North Hemisphere.
This milestone is only achievable if we are able to control the image contrast between the luminous star and a very faint planet located about one arcsec away. Challenge accepted!!
