As we approach days when many cultures honor and remember ancestors, let’s dive into a different kind of ghost story… in optics! 🕯️✨
Ever spotted a faint, double image in your telescope or camera? That’s a ghost image—a “haunting” effect caused when light reflects between multiple surfaces inside an optical system, like lenses or filters. These optical “ghosts” can sneak into photos, sometimes adding an unexpected (but usually unwanted!) overlay to images. While they’re more common in camera lenses and some microscope systems, even telescopes can catch a ghost or two! 👻🔭
Our engineers work hard to exorcise these ghost images using special coatings, precision design, and well-placed baffles. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the scariest things in our lenses aren’t just in the sky! 🌌
